    The Mitakshara isn’t actually a book itself, but a commentary on another important text in Hindu law, the Yajnavalkya Smriti.

    The author of the Mitakshara commentary was Vijñāneśvara. He was a scholar who lived in the late 11th and early 12th centuries AD. The Mitakshara is known for its theory of inheritance by birth.
