a clay particle is small. what are the limits of the size of this particle

    You’re right, clay particles are very small! The upper size limit for a clay particle is generally defined as:

    Less than 0.002 millimeters (2 micrometers)

    This is according to international soil classification systems like the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) system and the British Standard BS5970. Anything larger than 2 micrometers would be categorized as silt instead of clay.
